It’s been 4 weeks since Ironman Austria. I’ve had a real struggle getting back into things. I knew it was going to be hard to pick things back up after racing in Austria. But hoped to be ramping back up into within about 2 weeks. After the initial high of the result I got the usual blues about 7 days post race. On top of this I’ve been trying to remind myself that Austria was never meant to be the main goal. But the voices in my head are telling me “you’ve done enough.” “The jobs done.” “You’ve proven yourself even if you have a bad race in Wales”. I know this isn’t the case but trust me post Ironman you don’t need much of an excuse to creep into your mind to make you skip a session.
Plan now is to narrow down my focus, one day at a time and try to put together a good block of training. The longer than planned rest has certainly taken the edge off my fitness noticeably a higher HR at relatively low RPE. Looking at things from a positive point of view I’m 6 weeks out from Ironman wales and building fitness over that period is certainly better than trying to maintain a peak.
The lure of the big island is slowly ‘silencing the voices’.
