So Ironman Wales didn’t happen. It may not
appear like it to those looking from the outside in, but there are more
important things in my life than reaching the finish line of an Ironman.
Circumstances meant that it wasn’t to be this year. They’ll be other races and
I have unfinished business!
I did follow the race and it looks like it
was an amazing event. Looking at the times, and having read some of the race
reports of guys racing, it was obviously a tough day to say the least! I knew the
course was a tough one from the week I spent training on the course back in
June. Add the weather conditions on the day to this and it must be up there
with the toughest on the circuit. Check out the video below of the swim start.
A few people have asked me how I reckon I might have fared? Impossible to say,
I’m certainly not in Austria condition. Fact is anyone who made the start line
beat me.
So what’s next? I haven’t made plans for
next year yet and am open to suggestions. Kona is still the ultimate goal. KT
and I have talked about both toeing the start line of an Mdot next year, and
both trying to qualify in the same event. The training/family/work ‘balancing
act’ to achieve this would be epic. But just imagine… would be amazing! (Would
be typical of KT to qualify in her first race and yet again steel my thunder!)
Races I do have planned are the Kent XC’s a
couple of 10k’s (still need to crack this sub 35!) and the London Marathon. I’m
tempted to have a proper go at the marathon and see what time I could achieve,
will decide on this a little later in the year.
For now I’m just doing what I want, when I
want, and will start more seriously at the beginning of October. Laterz
